Safety & coastal considerations

Delray Beach is a humid, salty, storm-prone place to run wire. These are the things we remind customers about every week.

Salt air corrodes connections

Three miles from the Atlantic, outdoor devices and covers pit fast. Use weather-resistant (WR) devices, stainless screws and in-use covers, and check outdoor receptacles every season.

GFCI where water lives

Kitchens, baths, laundry, garages, outdoors and anywhere near a pool. Test the button monthly — a GFCI that won't reset is telling you something.

Wet location means wet-rated parts

UF cable for burial, weatherproof boxes, gasketed covers and wet-rated fixtures. Indoor Romex in an outdoor box is the most common mistake we see.

Never backfeed a generator

Do not plug a generator into a wall outlet. Use a generator-rated cord to the appliance, or have an electrician install a proper interlock or transfer switch.

Know when to call a pro

Panel work, new circuits, aluminum wiring, anything behind a permit, or a breaker that keeps tripping. Swapping a device is DIY; feeding the panel is not.

This page is general guidance, not an electrical design. Permits and Florida code apply to new circuits and panel work — hire a licensed electrician for anything beyond replacing an existing device or fixture.
